How it works
Expresses that someone else does an action that benefits the speaker or the speaker's in-group. The giver of the favor is the subject, and the speaker (or in-group) is the grateful receiver of the benefit.
Formation
Examples

My friend helped me with my homework.

Notes
- The benefit must come toward the speaker (or in-group); the receiver is often omitted because it is understood to be 私.
- Use the polite/respectful 〜てくださる when the giver is a superior.
- Compare 〜てもらう: with くれる the giver is subject (友だちが…くれた); with もらう the receiver is subject (私は友だちに…
