How it works

The honorific (尊敬語) equivalent of ~てくれる, used when a person of higher status or someone to be respected does a favor for the speaker (or the speaker's in-group). It raises the status of the giver of the favor.

Formation

Examples

The teacher kindly corrected my composition for me.

The department head kindly went out of his way to take me to the station.

Thank you for kindly explaining it in detail.

Notes

  • The giver of the favor is the higher-status person; the receiver is the speaker's side.
  • Pairs with ~ていただく, the humble version that focuses on the receiver.
