How it works
そして is a sentence-initial conjunction that adds related information ('and') or shows a following action in sequence ('and then'). It links two sentences that are on equal footing or that follow one another in time.
「そして」は文頭に置く接続詞で、関係のある情報を付け加えたり（〜、そして〜）、次に起こる動作を順番に表したり（それから・その後）します。対等な二つの文や、時間順に続く文をつなぎます。

Examples
彼女は親切です。そして、頭がいいです。
かのじょはしんせつです。そして、あたまがいいです。
She is kind. And she is smart.
朝ご飯を食べました。そして、学校へ行きました。

I ate breakfast. And then I went to school.
部屋を掃除しました。そして、洗濯もしました。

Notes
- そして connects whole sentences; to connect nouns use と, and to connect adjectives/verbs use the て-form.「そして」は文と文をつなぎます。名詞は「と」、形容詞・動詞は「て形」でつなぎます。
- When emphasizing strict time order ('after that'), それから is often more natural than そして.「その後で」という時間の順序を強く表すときは「それから」のほうが自然なことがあります。
- そして can also add a final, climactic point ('and on top of that').「そして」は最後の決め手を付け加える（しかも）使い方もあります。
