How it works
~ことになる expresses that a decision or outcome has been reached, often by circumstances, an organization, or someone other than the speaker, rather than by the speaker's own will. It attaches to the dictionary form. The form ~ことになった reports the result ('it has been decided that...'), and ~ことになっている expresses an established rule or arrangement.

Notes
- ~ことになった often softens or makes impersonal a decision (even one you helped make).「~ことになった」は、自分が関わった決定でも遠回しに・客観的に伝える働きがある。
