一緒に

How it works

一緒に (いっしょに) is an adverb meaning 'together'. It often pairs with the person you do something with, marked by と: 〜と一緒に ('together with ~'). It modifies a verb.

「共に」という意味の副詞です。一緒にする相手はとで示し、「〜と一緒に」の形で『〜と共に』を表します。動詞を修飾します。

Examples

• 友だちと一緒に映画を見ました。

  ともだちといっしょにえいがをみました。

  I watched a movie together with my friend.

• 一緒に昼ご飯を食べませんか。

  いっしょにひるごはんをたべませんか。

  Won't you eat lunch together (with me)?

• 家族と一緒に旅行に行きます。

  かぞくといっしょにりょこうにいきます。

  I'm going on a trip together with my family.

Notes

• The companion is marked with と, not に: 友だちと一緒に (correct), not 友だちに一緒に.一緒にする相手はとで示します（友だちと一緒に。友だちに一緒には誤り）。
• 一緒に + ませんか / ましょう is a common way to invite someone ('let's ~ together').一緒に＋ませんか・ましょうは誘うときの定番表現です。
• 一緒 can also mean 'the same' (一緒です = 'it's the same'), separate from the adverb 一緒に.一緒は「同じ」という意味でも使えます（一緒です）。一緒に（共に）とは別の用法です。
