てたまらない

How it works

Expresses that a feeling or physical sensation is so intense that you cannot bear it. It shows strong, uncontrollable emotion or sensation directly experienced by the speaker, like 'I'm dying to...' or 'unbearably.'

感情や体の感覚が非常に強く、我慢できないほどであることを表します。話し手が実際に感じる、抑えられないほど強い気持ちや感覚を示します。

Formation

い-adjective (く-form) + てたまらない (暑くてたまらない); な-adjective + でたまらない (心配でたまらない); Verb たい-form → ~たくてたまらない.

Examples

  • きょうはあつくてたまらない。

    It's unbearably hot today.

  • くににいるかぞくのことがしんぱいでたまらない。

I can't help worrying about my family back home.

  • あたらしいゲームがやりたくてたまらない。

I'm dying to play the new game.

Notes

  • Used for the speaker's own intense, spontaneous feelings/sensations; for third parties add ようだ/らしい etc.
