~て(te-form)
and / and then (connective te-form)
〜て(動作の接続・順序)
- JLPT
- N5
- Register
- neutral
How it works
The te-form connects verbs, listing actions in sequence ("do A and then B"), giving reasons, or describing manner. It is the foundation for many grammar patterns (~ている, ~てください, etc.).
て形は動詞をつなぎ、動作を順番に並べたり(AしてB)、理由や様態を表したりします。「〜ている」「〜てください」など多くの文型の土台になります。

Notes
- The exception 行く becomes 行って (not 行いて).例外として「行く」は「行って」になります(「行いて」ではありません)。
- Tense is shown only on the final verb; the te-form itself is tense-neutral.時制は文末の動詞だけで表し、て形自体は時制を持ちません。
- te-form can imply sequence, cause/reason, or means, so the exact meaning depends on context.て形は「順序」「原因・理由」「手段」などを表すため、意味は文脈で決まります。
