How it works

Indicates that something is deliberately made, designed, or intended for a particular target audience or market. Unlike 向き (incidental suitability), 向け emphasizes the producer's intention to target that group.

Formation

Examples

This anime is made for an adult audience.

That company exports products intended for overseas markets.

I signed up for a computer course designed for beginners.

Notes

  • 向け stresses deliberate targeting/intention (made FOR that audience).「向け」は対象を意図して作ったことを強調します。
  • Often appears as 向けに (adverbial) and 向けの (modifying a noun).「向けに(副詞的)」「向けの(名詞修飾)」の形でよく使います。
