～だけでなく

How it works

Adds information: 'not only A, but also B.' It is frequently followed by ～も in the second clause to reinforce 'as well'. The full form ～だけでなく～も means 'not only A but also B'. Common and usable in both speech and writing.

「AだけでなくBも」と情報を付け加える表現。後半に「～も」を伴うことが多く、「AだけでなくBも」で「Aだけでなく、Bも」を表す。話し言葉・書き言葉どちらでも使える。

Notes

• Often paired with も in the second part: AだけでなくBも.後半に「も」を伴うことが多い（AだけでなくBも）。
• ～だけでなく～も is the everyday form; ～ばかりでなく and ～のみならず are more formal equivalents.「～だけでなく」は日常的、「～ばかりでなく」「～のみならず」はより文語的。
• Also seen as ～だけではなく with は inserted for slight emphasis.強調して「～だけではなく」と「は」を入れることもある。
