How it works
Two main uses: (1) with falling intonation, it expresses the speaker's conjecture, 'probably / I think'; (2) with rising intonation, it seeks the listener's agreement or confirmation, '...right?'. It attaches to plain forms; nouns and na-adjectives attach directly (without だ). The casual equivalent is だろう.
主に二つの用法があります。(1)下げ調子で話し手の推量「たぶん〜だろう」を表し、(2)上げ調子で相手に同意・確認を求める「〜でしょう?」になります。普通形に付き、名詞・ナ形容詞は「だ」を付けずに直接続けます。くだけた形は「だろう」です。
Formation
普通形(NとNaは語幹のまま)+ でしょう(例:降るでしょう、高いでしょう、元気でしょう、雨でしょう)
Examples
明日は雨が降るでしょう。
あしたはあめがふるでしょう。
It will probably rain tomorrow.

彼は来週帰ってくるでしょう。
かれはらいしゅうかえってくるでしょう。

Notes
- Falling intonation = conjecture ('probably'); rising intonation = seeking agreement ('right?').下げ調子は推量「たぶん」、上げ調子は同意を求める「〜でしょう?」になります。
- Nouns and na-adjectives drop だ before でしょう (雨でしょう, 元気でしょう, not 雨だでしょう).名詞・ナ形容詞は「だ」を取って付けます(○雨でしょう ×雨だでしょう)。
- だろう is the plain/casual form; でしょう is its polite version. Often paired with たぶん.普通形は「だろう」で、その丁寧形が「でしょう」です。「たぶん」とよく一緒に使います。
