polite

How it works

Used to politely ask for or request an object/item. The noun you want is marked with を, and ください (the polite imperative of くれる) follows. It is the standard way to order food, ask for an item in a shop, or request something be handed to you.

Formation

Noun +

Examples

    One coffee, please.

Excuse me, please give me that red pen.

    Two tickets, please.

Notes

  • To politely ask someone to DO an action (not give an object), use the
  • When stating a quantity (一つ, 二枚), the counter usually comes right before ください, not before を.
